Foley Effluent Pipeline Permitting and Construction Services

Birkitt Environmental Services, Inc. (Birkitt) provided environmental services to Georgia Pacific for the approximate 15.3 mile Effluent Pipeline Construction project in Taylor County, Florida. Birkitt was previously responsible for providing environmental support for state permitting and lead for federal permitting. Services included jurisdictional wetland delineations for approximately twenty-six (26) individual wetlands as well as surveys for state and federal listed species. These surveys included species specific surveys for the Sherman’s fox squirrel, marsh songbirds, and the gopher tortoise. Birkitt led permitting efforts in obtaining modifications of existing Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) approvals. Birkitt also obtained approval for the relocation of on-site gopher tortoises from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and conducted the relocation of approximately sixty-five (65) tortoises. In addition, Birkitt provided support services for the construction of the project that included turbidity monitoring.  Finally, Birkitt designed an agency required Manatee Watch Program for underwater blasting portions of the project, coordinated with these agencies to receive concurrence on the Program, and conducted manatee watch services during blasting events.
