PROJECT SCIENTIST - PROJECT MANAGER 2016

Birkitt Environmental Services, Inc., a growing environmental and ecological consulting firm is seeking an experienced Project Scientist to work in its Tampa, FL office. The firm focuses on natural resources permitting and related environmental issues. The firm does not provide hazardous waste or related environmental services. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience in the environmental consulting field focusing on environmental permitting and 3 years of experience in environmental project management. Candidate must demonstrate a proven track record managing technical, operational, and financial aspects of permitting projects.

General Duties
The Project Scientist - Project Manager position requires the effective planning and execution of environmental permitting and natural resources projects, including schedules, budgets, resource management, and invoice generation and approval with minimal supervision. Candidate's experience must include environmental permitting projects in Florida. Responsible for directing staff and coordination with subconsultants tasked with project components including literature and internet research; data preparation and management; technical writing, report composition and production; and environmental field work using standard methods.

Responsibilities typically include multi-disciplinary project management activities; ability to effectively plan, delegate, communicate, and supervise ecological assessments, fresh water and coastal wetlands delineations, environmental and water resources studies, monitoring, and related engineering tasks which may include: wetlands habitat characterizations and jurisdictional determinations, threatened and endangered species literature and field reviews, environmental permitting, water quality, restoration design, and construction management. Ability to plan and schedule, supervise and coordinate the organization and execution of tasks to meet project objectives. Typically 80% office and 20% field work. Knowledge of and experience applying Florida environmental regulations and proficiency in Florida and USACE wetlands jurisdictional delineations is required. Candidate's experience must include private sector work.

Education/Credentials
Bachelor's degree (required) in relevant natural sciences or water resources field required. Master's degree or PWS preferred. Gopher tortoise certification a plus.
