QM8 ARSR Wetland Restoration
Federal Aviation Administration

Birkitt Environmental Services, Inc. (Birkitt) provided construction oversight and project management services for the restoration of over 80 acres of Palustrine Emergent Wetlands (PEM) located on a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) property in Miami, Florida. The project included removal of invasive exotics and non-native species through mechanical excavation and herbicide treatment. Targeted species include those species on the Florida Exotic Plant and Pest Council’s (FLEPPC) list and the Department of Environmental Management’s (DERM) prohibited and controlled plants list, and agricultural planted crops of papaya, okra, sugarcane, and yucca. Additionally mulch and rock piles were removed. The Birkitt team included scientists and contractors specializing in wetland restoration construction. Birkitt professionals conducted site inspections throughout the project to ensure all grading and restoration activities were conducted as required and that invasive exotics and non-native species were removed and treated in accordance with the site restoration plan. Restoration activities have been completed and ecological monitoring and continued maintenance of the restored site has been initiated by Birkitt.
